The Malaysian Thai-Chamber of Commerce organized the annual Merdeka Golf competition on August 28, 2020 at the Amata Spring Country Club in Chonburi, Thailand.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s tournament had a participation limit of 100 golfers to comply with social distancing regulations. The participants, which comprised golfers of various nationalities including Malaysia, Thailand, Mainland China, Hong Kong, and more, had a shotgun start tee-time at 1:00PM at one of the most prestigious and recognizable championship golf courses in Asia.

The Merdeka Golf 2020 was graced by the presence and participation of H.E. Dato’ Jojie Samuel, the Ambassador of Malaysia to Thailand. Also present was H.E. Haji Ismail Haji Abd. Manap, Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to Thailand.

The event ended with a buffet dinner, during which more than 80 lucky draw prizes were given out. With a score of 74, the Overall Winner of the Merdeka Golf 2020 went to Mr. Kelvin Wong. Ms. Hui Yee Soh, who was also the youngest participant, was crowned the Best Female Golfer, with a score of 84.

“We are glad to receive such tremendous support at the Merdeka Golf 2020 notwithstanding the pandemic, and we believe that events like this will continue to serve as a great platform for the business community here in Thailand to further develop our mutual cooperation and understanding,” said Dr. Hwee Khim Boo, the Chairperson of the Malaysian-Thai Chamber of Commerce.

This year’s event boasted an impressive list of corporate sponsors, which included Best Plastics Technology Co., Ltd. and Berli Jucker Public Company Limited as the tier one Care Sponsors, named after this year’s Malaysian National Day theme, “Malaysia Prihatin”, which means “Malaysia Cares”.

The Malaysian-Thai Chamber of Commerce would like to thank the Embassy of Malaysia, the corporate sponsors, and all participants for making Merdeka Golf 2020 a success. The Malaysian-Thai Chamber of Commerce remains committed in our objective to promote and develop economic relations between Malaysia and Thailand, and to engage with the business community here in Thailand.
